Health Coaching: The Future of Healthcare!

The rates of chronic diseases have reached records highs, yet our healthcare costs are the highest in history. Children are developing diseases that would normally only been seen in adults. It has been proven through the study of epigenetics that our lifestyle impacts our health even more so than our genetics. Our lifestyle choices (such as our diet, emotions, social interactions, chemical exposure, exercise levels, held trauma, etc.) actually change the way our genes express themselves. How incredible is that? For example, cruciferous vegetables (ie. broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, asparagus, artichoke, kale) turn on around 500 gene pathways that help heal our body!
A powerful quote by Brad King encompasses this idea: "Our genes may load the gun, but our lifestyle pulls the trigger."
Health coaches are the missing link in healthcare. Let me paint you a picture: for example, you go to your doctor, and you are told to lose weight for your health by eating healthier and exercising. Ok, so then what? Maybe you Google some specific advise (hoping it's legit), sign up to a gym, talk to friends and family, or resort to what you learned back in the day. How do you make this happen in a way that works for you personally and creates lasting change? This is where health coaches come in.
Health coaching is a collaborative, client-centered approach designed to empower individuals to make lasting lifestyle changes that improve their overall health and well-being. It blends principles of behaviour change, motivation, problem-solving, and goal-setting to help clients identify and achieve their personal health and wellness goals. Health coaches work with clients to assess their current habits, challenges, and health needs, and create a tailored plan to reach their goals. Using a holistic approach, it takes into account the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of health.
Studies have shown that health coaching helps individuals make significant progress toward their health goals, reduce stress, and enhance their overall quality of life. Research has also shown that individuals at high risk for health issues saved an average of $412 USD per person per month on healthcare costs after completing a health coaching program.
I have recently become an IIN Certified Health Coach and the program has changed my life. I feel the healthiest and most in control of my health than ever before. I have shed 10lbs, I have the energy to do the things I love, and I've overcome chronic stress that weighed me down for over 3 years. I am so excited to embark on this new journey of improving the lives of others, after practicing massage therapy for 10+ years.
